Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene will face off in the American Idol finals next week.
They advanced on Thursday night's results show, while Alex Preston was eliminated. Alex said goodbye with a reprisal of his audition song, "Fairytales."
Caleb, a 23-year-old rocker from Asheville, North Carolina, moved on despite recently suffering a vocal cord hemorrhage. He will compete for the American Idol crown with Jena, a 17-year-old from Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Host Ryan Seacrest announced on the results show that Caleb will perform on the season finale with KISS , Jena will join forces with Paramore , and Alex will collaborate with Jason Mraz . This is in addition to previously-announced musical guests like John Legend , Demi Lovato and Darius Rucker .
Throughout the results show, more footage was shown from the final three's hometown visits.
Former American Idol winner Scotty McCreery stopped by to perform his single, "Feelin' It."
Seacrest conducted brief interviews with two other ex-contestants, Danny Gokey and Elliott Yamin , who were sitting in the audience. Gokey said he and his wife are expecting their second child, and that he just signed a new record deal. Yamin said he's working on his fourth album.
American Idol will air on a different schedule next week. Part one of the finale will air on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time. A new winner will be crowned the following night.
