Democratic lawmakers in Illinois are moving forward with a 2015 budget that would keep the temporary income tax in place.
Now the tax is set to decrease from 5% to 3.75% in January.
That amounts to a decrease in revenue of $1.6 billion.
Democrats say the cut could severally hurt schools and other services.
State Rep. Greg Harris who chairs the House Human Services appropriations committee says that this plan is not all that different from Governor Pat Quinn’s.
