The Indiana State Police are reminding Hoosiers to be aware of a phone scam that has cost several resident thousands over the past year.
Officers at the Bloomington Post say that an elderly victim received a phone call from a person identifying themselves as a representative from the American Consulate in Mexico.
The caller said that the grandson had been caught with marijuana in needed $1200 wired to get out of jail.
She did that and then they called back and wanted $50,000 for attorney charges.
That is when the woman realized she had been taken and called police.
