The Terre Haute City Council is looking at passing an ordinance that would require property owners to clean up graffiti in a set amount of time.
Last night a council committee determined that the ordinance needs more work before it goes to the full council for a vote.
The current proposal would have city police fine property owners $25 if they didn’t clean up graffiti in 30 days.
There would be an option where the property owner could sign a waiver and the city would clean it up.
There is also the concern about fining property owners because they are a victim of crime.
Another meeting of the committee is set for April 10th at City Hall at 5:15.
The council’s sunshine meeting will happen after that.
You can see the proposed ordinance at the city’s web site.
