A public meeting was held last night (Monday night) about a new power line slated for western Vigo County.
Duke Energy is planning to add a 138,000 volt power line that will run through the western Vigo County area near the Wabash River.
Three possible routes the utility company could use for the upgrades were put on display.
Some run through neighborhoods, others through the Wabashiki Wetlands.
In the end the only thing that just about everyone could agree on is that they don’t want the line in their back yard.
Representatives of Riverscape, which includes the Wabashiki Wetlands, say that it would destroy a natural habitat area.
Duke says that they need the new line to ensure good service.
Duke could use eminent domain and put the line just about anywhere they like.
Representatives from Duke Energy say they'll continue to take feedback until June when a final route will be chosen.
Construction will begin in 2015 and be completed by summer of 2016.
