The show’s first openly gay contestant, MK Nobilette , was excluded from American Idol 's top 10 on Thursday night. The San Francisco native was eliminated from the Fox competition after falling into the bottom three, along with Dexter Roberts and Majesty Rose , who found herself in bottom three for the second week in a row.

MK had performed Pink 's "F****in' Perfect" on Wednesday night's performance show, as part of American Idol 's "Top of the Charts" week.

On Thursday, MK performed John Legend 's "All of Me." in an effort to convince the judges to use their "save" and keep her in the competition.  After her performance, Harry Connick, Jr. informed MK that he, Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban could not reach a unanimous decision and as a result would not use their save to keep her in the competition.

Country duo Florida Georgia Line sent a video message praising Dexter for his performance of the duo’s hit “Cruise” on Wednesday’s show.

Country singer Hunter Hayes did the same for C.J. Harris , who performed Hunter’s song, “Invisible" on Wednesday.

During the one-hour results show, J-Lo was joined by former American Idol contestants Pia Toscano , Jessica Sanchez and Allison Iraheta for a world premiere performance of her new single, "I Luh Ya Papi," which also features French rapper French Montana .

The other musical guest was the Louisiana band Royal Teeth , who performed their new track, "Wild."

Next Wednesday night on Fox, American Idol 's theme will be “I’m with the Band,” during which the top nine will serve as the lead singer for the show’s musical director, Rickey Minor , and his band.
