John Legend Says It's "Just a Matter of Time" Before He Collaborates with Adele

John Legend is having a moment: his romantic ballad "All of Me" has become his first Top 10 pop hit, and he's also a newlywed, having tied the knot with model Chrissy Teigen , this past September.  Now John, who we saw last month duetting with Alicia Keys on the Beatles tribute special on CBS, is making plans for his next big collaboration.

"I’ve put the message out to Adele that I think she’d be great to work with," he tells the British paper the Daily Star . "I think that’ll happen -- it’s just a matter of time."

Timing-wise, it's possible that John and Adele could put something together for her third album, on which she's reportedly working with such collaborators as One Republic 's Ryan Tedder , hit-making songwriter Diane Warren , and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Phil Collins .  But Adele's not the only person with whom John wants to work.

"I jammed on some Marvin Gaye songs with Mumford And Sons in New York recently, too...we did a show for [British Prime Minister] David Cameron and President Obama at the White House last year," he tells the paper. "If the Mumfords ever want to do something, I'd be very open to the idea."

As far as creating his own music in the future, John says that now that he's a married man, he has to tread lightly when it comes to the kinds of songs he writes.  "If I write about relationships gone bad in the future, I worry that people will think my marriage has gone bad," he tells the Daily Star .

"Everyone is so focused on my relationship with my wife after [I wrote] a really romantic album, and it’s interesting to see if people will read things into everything I write."
