Looks like being on Broadway fits Carly Rae Jepsen like, well, a glass slipper. The singer has extended her engagement in the musical Cinderella through June 8; originally she was set to conclude her run in April.
Also extending her run is Carly's co-star, Fran Drescher , who plays her wicked stepmother in the musical. One of the producers said in a statement, "We were very happy when Carly and Fran joined the cast this winter and now we're overjoyed that they will stay with us even longer. The humor and charm they bring to the show are enormously appealing both on stage and off. Audiences love them and so do we."
Starting April 1, Cinderella will begin a new performance schedule that will see a Thursday matinee added; however, there will no longer be a performance on Wednesday evening. Just something to keep in mind if you're traveling to New York City to check out Carly in action.
Here's something else to put on your schedule: Carly won't be able to perform from May 16 through the 20 due to "prior commitments."
Carly's extended run on Broadway doesn't mean that she's abandoning her music career, however. Though she jokes that she told her mom that she's having so much fun that she's doesn't want to go back into "record mode," she tells ABC News Radio that she is "still constantly writing."
"I think after doing this, I'm gonna be ready for something new, 'cause that is my personality, to kinda continually shift and morph," she explains. "I'm definitely excited to surprise people with the music I've been writing lately. It's a little bit different." How different? Well, she says she wants to move away from the pop sound of her biggest hit.
"I think after having a song like 'Call Me Maybe,' and going into the pop world in such a heavy way, there is a desire in me to just try something completely different," she tells ABC News Radio. "And I've learned to just kinda follow those impulses."
