If you are a guy who wants to be a girl or a girl that wants to be a guy and you are a student with insurance at the University of Illinois, you’re in luck.
The U of I board of trustees has voted to add coverage for sex-change operations to the health insurance plan used by many students at the flagship campus.
The change is due to student requests.
Undergraduates will pay $291 a semester starting next fall which is an increase of $37.
About 28,000 of the 40,000 students at the Champaign – Urbana campus use the insurance.
University officials say just $2 of that amount is to add sex-change coverage.
The other $35 is due to the federal Affordable Care Act.
