A show-down between Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett and the Terre Haute City Council could be coming.
The council is considering whether to hire a financial consultant to provide advice to the council on the budget.
Last year was the first time the council hired their own consultant because they felt they were not getting good information from the city administration.
The proposed cost for the one year deal is $20,000 and the council wants to take that money from the controllers’ budget.
The mayor says that the city’s budget is already tight and instead of taking the money from the administration he wants them to take the money from their own budget.
The mayor has threatened a veto if the council goes ahead with the current plan.
They could over ride that veto if six of the nine members go along. A vote could happen at the next council meeting on Thursday.
Also at last night’s sunshine meeting the council discussed passing an ordinance that would require property owners who are vandalized by graffiti to clean it up in 30 days.
