Beware Hoosier tax cheats.
The state of Indiana has new software that is designed to stop tax fraud.
LexisNexis is the name of the program and reports are that in just it’s first month on the job it has flagged 619 returns as attempted fraud.
If those returns would have gone undetected, $1.2 million in refunds would have been mailed out.
The new software picks returns at random for closer examination plus it cross references every return that is electronically filed or mailed into the state and looks for numbers that do not match up.
