Vigo County will soon have a new arson, search and rescue dog.
Blaze is a 9 week old British Labrador.
The Vigo County Council purchased Blaze with help from the Prosecutor’s office.
Darrick Scott will be the handler and the two will be trained in arson detection as well as search and rescue.
Blaze is now in obedience school which will be followed by search and rescue training in Wisconsin and the arson training about a year from now.
Scott is a 25-year firefighter with the Sugar Creek Fire Department, where he is now chief and has also served 22 years with the Terre Haute City Fire Department.
Current arson dog Chaka is nearing retirement.
The cost for Blaze is about $9,900, which includes training and certification.
