A groundbreaking will be held today for the new, $9.8 million Vigo Schools Aquatic Center, which will be located at Voorhees Park. The event will take place at 9 a.m. The event is mainly just for show as construction contracts have not yet been awarded.
The new facility will replace pools at the three county high schools that administrators say needs to be replaced.
School officials allege that this will be an economic development tool.
The project will be funded by going into debt.
If the cost of the project went over $10 million then it would have to be approved by county voters.
