A pair of Sycamores were selected in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft this past Saturday.
Shortstop Tyler Wampler from West Terre Haute was chosen in the 17th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers and senior catcher Mike Fitzgerald was taken in the 27th round by the San Diego Padres.
Wampler earned the Missouri Valley Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award while also being named to the All-Defensive Team and to the All-MVC First Team. He batted .275 this past season with 53 hits including five doubles, a triple, and 16 RBI while hitting from the middle of the order.
Fitzgerald finished his senior season with the second best batting average on the team at .293 as he had 51 hits in 154 at-bats with 10 doubles and three home runs.
He was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference second team and to the MVC Baseball Scholar Athlete team as a senior.
