Indiana State’s Ryan Keaffaber became the 11th Sycamore and the first since 2000 to be named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Baseball team, selected by Collegiate Baseball, it was announced on Wednesday.
Keaffaber was named the 2014 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and completed his initial campaign with the Sycamores by posting a 3-2 record with a 3.26 earned run average. He recorded 11 saves on the season.
Three members of the Sycamores baseball team were honored by the Missouri Valley Conference on Wednesday as Landon Curry, Mike Fitzgerald and Jacob Hayes were named to the Missouri Valley Conference baseball scholar-athlete team.
Curry and Fitzgerald were placed on the first team, and Jacob Hayes was named to the honorable mention squad.
This is his second straight Scholar-Athlete recognition after being named to the 2013 team. Curry has a 3.83 cumulative grade point average while majoring in finance.
Fitzgerald has a 3.71 cumulative grade point average while majoring in recreation and sport management.
Hayes has a 3.47 cumulative grade point average while majoring in biology.
