The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids said in its report pressure on young athletes is creating a major new marketplace for performance enhancing drugs. Experts say that they pressure to succeed from coaches and parents and the availability of steroids and stimulants makes them hard-to-resist.
The Illinois High School Association provides training for coaches about steroids. For the past five years, the IHSA has conducted random drug testing of athletes but only two athletes have tested positive and faced disciplinary action.
