Jason Mraz ’s newalbum, YES! , was officially released Tuesday, and with it came the announcement of more tour dates for the U.S. and Canada.  Now he’s revealed a special New York City residency as well.

Mraz made the announcement Wednesday morning at the Big Apple’s most iconic landmark: the Empire State Building.  Dubbed the Five Boroughs Tour, Mraz and his tour partners, Raining Jane , will perform shows in each of New York’s five boroughs -- Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and The Bronx -- beginning September 17 in Brooklyn and wrapping the 22 and 23 at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan.

Tickets for the Five Boroughs Tour go on sale Monday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. ET at YesNYCTour.com , though fans can buy tickets now.  Tickets for Jason’s previously announced dates are on sale now.  You can see all of Jason’s tour dates at JasonMraz.com .

Jason, a resident of California, explains that he wanted to do a special tour of New York City because it inspired him as an artist. "This is...where the seed was planted for me," he told ABC News Radio on the observation deck of the Empire State Building. "I came up here when I was 18 and the seed was planted that I could write music, and that I could have a career as an artist.  And I left the city saying, 'One day I'm gonna come back, and when I do, it's not necessarily gonna be as a resident of the city and have to work for a living: it's gonna be as a musician,' so this is kinda what that's about."

In addition, Jason says, the tour gives him an opportunity to play many smaller venues instead of one big one.

"Y'know, we've done Madison Square Garden, we've done Jones Beach [in Long Island, NY] several times, and I don't feel I thrive in large venues," he explained. "And so I suggested to my team that we play smaller venues, and maybe we could spread it out over a couple of nights...maybe we could even play all five boroughs!  And they took that idea and just ran with it, and here we are."

In addition to making their announcement, Jason and Raining Jane also performed an acoustic version of their current single "Love Someone" on the observation deck of the Empire State Building.

Look for Jason to perform Thursday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , and NBC’s Today show Friday morning.
