The Terre Haute City Council held a special meeting about city finances and the sunshine meeting last night.
The meeting didn’t really accomplish anything but show just how wide the gap between some council members and the mayor is.
According to the mayor the state property tax caps have cut revenue by millions of dollars.
Mayor Duke Bennett says that things are turning around and city finances are improving.
Some council members say that the city budget isn’t improving and their consultant is raising concerns.
In the end the meeting turned into nothing more than a lot of finger wagging back and forth.
The reason is the that the city is currently being audited by the State Board Of Accounts and anyone who had anything to do with city finances had to sign a confidentiality agreement to keep quiet until the audit results are released.
The SBA also threatened to seek prosecution against anyone who violated that agreement.
