The Indianapolis Motor Speedway may burn a lot of fuel during a race but they are trying to be a little more green.
The Speedway is now home to a solar farm spread out on 60-plus acres of land owned by IMS, just east of the track
There are 40,000 panels taking up 41 acres, generating 9.0 megawatts of power.
That’s enough power to run 2,700 homes.
The 68 acres where the solar farm sits had been used for storage and is only a very small part of the approximately 1,000 acres that are owned by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
