Fifteen days after American Idol premiered its 13th season, the audition round ended Thursday night in Omaha, Nebraska. As usual, Keith Urban , Jennifer Lopez , and Harry Connick, Jr. were there to judge the contestants.
Here are the highlights of Thursday's one-hour episode:
Quaid Edwards ' mother is Jolie Edwards , a member of the country music band Jolie & the Wanted . Jolie once performed alongside Keith. Quaid sang "A Change Is Gonna Come," by Sam Cooke . Keith thought Quaid struggled but showed raw talent. Harry felt he was moving in the wrong direction as a singer. Still, Quaid earned a golden ticket.
Madisen Walker , 15, belted out "Before He Cheats," by former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood . Keith called it a karaoke rendition that didn't stand out. Nevertheless, he and Jennifer told Madisen "yes." Harry told them it was a bad move because Madisen was being set up for heartbreak.
Alyssa Siebken delivered an acoustic version of "No Hands," by rapper Waka Flocka Flame . J-Lo enjoyed the way Alyssa picked up the pace toward the end. Harry didn't think her voice was strong enough, but once again he was overruled by the other two judges.
Tyler Gurwicz initially failed with his take on Adele 's "Set Fire to the Rain." Keith said Tyler's facial expressions while performing made him look angry. Given a second chance, Tyler sang Jeff Buckley 's "Grace" and advanced.
CJ Jones earned a golden ticket by singing "Stand By Me," with Harry dancing slowly by his side.
Paula Hunt , an Air Force band specialist, covered Etta James ' "All I Could Do Was Cry." J-Lo told her her talent hasn't even blossomed yet. Paula is moving on in the competition.
Andrina Brogden tried "Halo," by Beyonce . Once again, Harry didn't think the vocals were good enough for the show, but was the only judge to vote "no."
Tessa Kate , 25, closed the show with a rendition of "Folsom Prison Blues," by Johnny Cash . Harry said he can't wait to see more of her. Tessa is headed to Hollywood.
In total, American Idol handed out 212 golden tickets during the audition round. Hollywood Week begins next Wednesday on Fox with a new, knockout-style round.
