Several Bills Moving Through The Indiana Legislature

A lot of action on various bills trying to make it though the Indiana Statehouse during the short session. The House unanimously passed a bill that would allow doctors to treat their patients – including writing prescriptions – without an in-person appointment. House Bill 1258 would require the Indiana Medical Licensing Board to adopt emergency rules that would allow caregivers to administer “distance treatments.”

A bill to expand Indiana’s Lifeline law passes out of the Senate and on to the house. The bill is an expansion of the Lifeline law and would protect minors under the influence of alcohol or narcotics from criminal prosecution if they report a medical emergency or crime to authorities. ______________________________________________________

The Indiana Senate passed a bill that would allow pharmacists to substitute generic-like biological drugs for brand names. Those interchangables aren’t even available yet, but could be on the market soon. Biologicals are used to treat a variety of diseases, including cancer, Lupus, and diabetes. ____________________________________________________________________________

A bill that would allow students participating in the Indiana State Fair to be excused from school passed in the Senate. The bill allows students three exempt absences to attend the fair. Last year more than 16,000 students participated in state fair projects. ______________________________________________________

The Senate passed a bill that would raise the prize on charity gambling fundraising events from $10,000 to $30,000. The bill now moves to the House. ______________________________________________________________________________

A bill that allows for the creation and funding of more charter schools for adults has made it out of the Senate. ____________________________________________________________________________
