Did Daft Punk Punk Us at the Grammy Awards?

Daft Punk clearly has a wicked sense of humor.  While the electronic duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter won the Album of the Year trophy during the Grammy Awards telecast on Sunday night, it appears they weren’t the ones on stage accepting the award.

While the two men claiming Daft Punk’s trophy were wearing their trademark robot helmets, video clearly shows that de Homem-Christo and Bangalter -- unmasked and dressed in suits and ties -- were actually sitting in in the audience with their apparent stand-ins.

Indeed, if you check the video of the duo's Record of the Year win , posted on the official Grammy YouTube channel, it's clearly Bangalter and de Homem-Christo sitting to the left and right, respectively, from the viewer's perspective, of the two white-suit-and-helmet-clad stand-ins who rise and take the stage to accept the award with co-producers Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers .  The unmasked duo also can be seen exchanging congratulations with the others, and the camera even cuts to reaction shots of them in the audience before Pharrell's acceptance comments begin.

Daft Punk won a total of four Grammys Sunday, including the top prize of Album of the Year for Random Access Memories .
