Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had a great weekend -- the duo was named Best New Artist and also took home three Grammys in the rap category during Sunday's telecast of the 56th annual Grammy Awards. They were also responsible for one of the most show-stopping moments of the night: 33 couples got married during their performance of "Same Love." For Ryan Lewis , the moment was made even more special, because someone close to his heart exchanged vows during the performance.

"My sister got married. She was one of the couples, her and her boyfriend," Ryan said on Tuesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show . "Shout out to Laura and Alex ! So that was tremendous. Having the family there and everything was great."

Macklemore's fiancee, Tricia Davis , also had an emotional time during music's big night. According to the rapper, she couldn't control her emotions after their fourth win .

"She's been there from the beginning so last night was especially [great]...to be there with your loved one, holding hands, watching to see if you're going to win these awards," said Macklemore. "When we won Best New Artist, she just kind of broke down into tears. And I was like, 'All right! We're definitely being watching by, like, 30 million people right now.'"

While the marriages, conducted by Queen Latifah , moved many to tears, the duo revealed to Ellen that the idea for the moment wasn't theirs.

" Ken Ehrlich , who is the producer of the show...his daughter has been a fan for a while. And so she told him [that] over the last year, a few different times, we've had proposals onstage," Ryan explained. "So...he thought that was a cool idea and it just started building and building and it turned into 33 couples."  Why 33?  Because that's the number of states that currently ban same-sex marriage.

Talking in general about the duo's roller-coaster ride to the top of the charts, Macklemore reiterated to Ellen something he had originally mentioned during his Best New Artist acceptance speech on Sunday night:  "It's been a very cool journey," he said. "It started with the fans. It spread organically."
