Indiana Governor Mike Pence has activated the Indiana National Guard to act as highway assistance teams in response to the winter storm.
Highway assistance teams will help rescue stranded motorists and will move people to shelters.
There are 24 teams and 96 people involved in the effort.
Teams are being deployed from Lebanon, Johnson County, Shelbyville, Indianapolis, Brazil, Columbus, Richmond, Seymour, Scottsburg, Terre Haute and New Albany.
INDOT road crews are working in 12-hour shifts.
Indiana State Police hopes drivers will stay off the roads if they can and will be careful if they must travel.
