On Monday, while we were all watching Shakira be a coach on The Voice, the woman herself was back in her home country of Colombia, opening yet another school that's been funded by her non-profit organization, Pies Descalzos, or "Bare Feet."

The school -- the eighth that Shakira has opened -- is located in a low-income neighborhood in Cartagena, a tourist city on Colombia's Atlantic Coast.  The school will provide an education for 1,700 needy children, from toddlers through high-schoolers.

Shakira tells Billboard , "I want to demonstrate...how we can change the lives, not only of the children who come to school, but also their families. Entire communities can be transformed when you have a school that functions properly."

The singer brought her one-year-old son Milan along with her to Colombia, his first visit to his mom's home country.  Billboard reports that by the end of the day, the toddler had received his Colombian passport.

In other Shakira news, her self-titled album, due March 25, is now available for pre-order.  If you do, you'll get free downloads of the single "Can't Remember to Forget You" and a new song , "Empire."
