The Vigo County Sheriffs department is asking the County Council for just over $600,000 for an upgrade in software for the County Jail.
Like most computers, their software needs to be updated from time to time.
That price would also include a new system that aids emergency dispatch officers.
$400,000 of the cost would come from fees collected from cellular and landline telephones.
The other $200,000 would come from the county income tax and other funds.
The software upgrade will help dispatchers by recording events and the system would actually help dispatchers determine the best response to a situation.
The system would recommend which officer, fire truck or ambulance to send to an emergency.
The Council will likely discuss the issue at their next meeting on March 11th.
