Obama's political roots are in Chicago, it's the first lady's hometown, the Obama children were born there and his presidential campaigns were based there.
Don't forget about Hawaii.
The President was born there and he vacations there.
Another possible site is Columbia University in New York City, where Obama was a student.
A decision could come as early as next year with a dedication ceremony sometime around the year 2020.
