In a battle of the top two teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, Rose Hulman came out on top 58-54 over Defiance College on Saturday. Senior Julian Strickland led the Engineers with 14 points, Jimmy Miller added 13 and Alec Houpt finished with 10 points that included a turn around jumper to give Rose the lead late in the contest. With the victory, the Engineers are in sole possession of first place with a 10-2 record in conference play. They return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Earlham College.
Looking to stay in the hunt for a spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament, the Rose Hulman Women scored a key 69-59 victory over Defiance on Saturday. Tied at 27 at the half, the Engineers used a 17-2 run in the second half and held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for more than 4 more minutes to seal the victory. Even though it was Senior Day, it was a pair of freshmen that paced the Engineer offense led by Josie Schmidt with 17 points and Abbie Marshall with 15 points and 7 rebounds. The Rose Hulman Seniors were honored before the game, Kelsey Ploof, Lauren Meadows and Jaci Dalton have helped the Engineers to 2 apprenances to the conference tournament. Rose Hulman improves to 8-11 overall and 6-6 in the conference.
