The Indiana State Teachers Association is urging Gov. Mike Pence to support freezing the state’s education accountability system for one year.
The reason is due to changes in the ISTEP test.
The union says that the new test will assess how well students perform under newly adopted math and English benchmarks.
Those benchmarks changed after Indiana pulled out of the Common Core standards.
The retooled ISTEP test will be administered next spring.
An Indiana Department of Education spokesman said that it is up to the Legislature on whether Indiana pauses its accountability system.
