A building that has been abandoned since 1994 in Linton is coming down.
General Electric built the facility in 1952.
The company manufactured small motors at the facility and employed around 600 people until the mid 1980’s.
GE and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management have recently come to terms about how the clean up should proceed.
Once complete GE will retain ownership and hopes to find a buyer for the land.
Officials say that when the clean up is complete the only thing left behind will be about 20 acres of grass.
Sabre Construction of New York will over see the project and will use as much local labor as possible.
