ACLU Says Minorities More Likely To Have Vehicles Search During Traffic Stop In Illinois

A new report out from the American Civil Liberties Union say that in Illinois police are nearly twice as likely to ask blacks and Latino drivers to consent to vehicle searches during traffic stops than they are to ask whites.

When police conduct those searches whites are 49 percent more likely than blacks to have contraband and 56 percent more likely than Latinos.

That report is part of the reason that the ACLU wants lawmakers to ban the practice of consent searches.

The ACLU says that most of the time the only thing that is found during those searches is a tiny amount of marijuana or a marijuana pipe.
