Prior to the MTV Video Music Awards on August 24, MTV always sponsors a concert called Lifebeat -- Music Fights HIV/AIDS, which raises money to educate young people about HIV/AIDS prevention. This year's headliners have just been announced: Sam Smith and Iggy Azalea.
The two artists will take the stage at the event at The Avalon in Los Angeles on Friday, August 22. Fans in Southern California who are subscribers to Time Warner Cable can get free tickets to the event.
Iggy is nominated for seven VMAs this year, including Video of the Year, and will perform on the telecast Sunday, August 24. Sam has two nominations: one for Best Male Video for "Stay with Me," and a nod in the Artist to Watch category. He hasn't been announced as a performer...yet.
Over the years, artists who've headlined the pre-VMA Lifebeat concert include Maroon 5 , Robin Thicke , Macklemore, The Beastie Boys and more.
