As Vigo County Schools resume today, teachers will also start the new year with a new contract.
Vigo County teachers who are rated effective and highly effective would receive a 3 percent salary increase under a tentative contract agreement reached last week. Teachers ratified the contract yesterday.
The School Board is expected to ratify the contract at their next meeting on the 25th this month.
Officials say that the salary hike is one of the best in the state. Even though Vigo County Schools have lost millions in state funding, the Corporation continues to maintain a healthy cash balance though careful planning.
The contract also provides more for retirement savings, improvements for coaching and other extra duty pay, and improvements to health insurance.
