Soybeans are a major crop for many farmers in the Midwest.
Indiana farmers last year produced 264.7 million bushels, the fourth highest in the nation.
To help further that along, Purdue University is forming a new research center devoted to soybeans.
Purdue has more than 40 faculty and staff members whose work in some way involves soybeans.
They will start by trying to devise a strategic research plan that will look at the crop’s role in feeding both people and animals and looking for more uses as a biofuel as well as other industrial applications.
