Dollar General already has 11 stores in Vigo County and they would like to make it 12.
The problem is that some in the area of North Clinton Street in North Terre Haute don’t want a store in their area.
The Area Plan Commission could recommend approval of a rezoning request tonight.
The final decision on the rezoning request is in the hands of the three Vigo County Commissioners.
Some area residents are concerned about increased traffic on already-busy North Clinton Street.
There are also concerns about litter, delivery trucks, noise, and light pollution.
Dollar General already has a store about two miles south of the proposed location.
A rezoning request for a Dollar General a little farther north on Clinton Street was unsuccessful in 2012.
Some are asking why an already vacant commercial property can’t be used.
Residents also wonder what good zoning is when so many exceptions can be granted.
