It was announced last week that Lorde will curate the soundtrack to the next film in The Hunger Games series, Mockingjay -- Part 1 . Initially, the plan was for her to be involved in the project on a smaller scale.

Speaking to Billboard at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, where she performed Friday night, the New Zealand teen said she was initially approached by her publisher with the idea to contribute the song that would be played over the end credits in Mockingjay -- Part 1 . She agreed, but then asked what the plans were for the soundtrack.

Lorde recalls, “I was really keen to curate it. I had this idea that it would be really cool and I think I know what is the right sound for the project. So they were really into it and it just started happening.”

She says it’s been a rewarding experience, though she adds, “[I]t blows my mind that this massive studio has just handed the reigns over to a 17-year-old. I’ve literally been doing it by myself, contacting every artist, sorting everything out.”

Lorde wouldn’t identify any of the artists she’s selected for the soundtrack, though she said fans will be “super surprised” by some of them. She said, “You’ll be like, what? I haven’t heard from them in ages…but in a great way.”

In her interview with Billboard , Lorde also gushed about “Weird Al” Yankovic ’s recently released parody of her hit song “Royals,” which he titled “Foil.” She was more than happy to give him her blessing to go ahead with his version, saying, “He asked ages ago if he could do it and I was like 'PLEASE! Please, can you do something with 'Royals.' I was listening to ‘Weird Al’ parodies when I was like 10 -- especially that one that he did of ‘Confessions’ by Usher .”
