Going green isn’t always a good or easy idea.
It would seem that this year the end of Hybrid buses has arrived.
The Terre Haute Transit Department purchased two hybrid buses in 2010 for $200,000 with federal government help.
But, the buses kept breaking down.
They did save fuel, by not being on the road.
The repairs were free until the company that made them filed for bankruptcy this week.
That’s the end of warranty repairs.
There is an option to convert them to traditional fuel buses for $34,000 which is a lot cheaper than a new bus.
A decision on that has not been reached.
Luckily the city has already ordered several new buses that will start taking to the road later this year.
They only batteries they will have are the ones to start the engine.
