D.J. E-Z Rock , an early hip hop pioneer best known for the 1988 hit "It Takes Two" with his partner Base , has died, according to a post on Base’s Twitter account .  No other details about his death are known.

Born Rodney "Skip" Bryce in Harlem, New York, DJ E-Z Rock teamed up with Base for their first single, "DJ Interview," in 1987.

They followed that up the next year with "It Takes Two," a tune that samples from the James Brown/Lyn Collins 1972 tune "Think (About It)."

"It Takes Two" peaked at #3 on Billboard ’s Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

The duo’s album of the same name produced the follow up hit "Joy and Pain."

The It Takes Two album went seven times over platinum.

The duo split soon after, but reunited in 1994 for an album entitled Break of Dawn .  The album failed to generate much buzz or sales.
