A proposed bill in the Illinois statehouse would impose a penny-per-ounce tax on sugar sweetened drinks. Those that like the idea say that it could help fight obesity in the state.
Many doubt that as you could still pick up a candy bar right next to the soda cooler.
There are also concerns that it will send many along the boarder with Indiana and other states across the line to buy soda.
There is already a fair amount of that going on now for those that want gas and cigarettes.
