Back in January, a law went into effect raising the speed limit on some Illinois roadways to 70mph.
The Illinois Department of Transportation was against raising the speed limit at the time.
Now that it has gone into effect anyways, they’re doing everything they can to make sure their workers stay safe.
They will start by increasing safety precautions such as extra signs and speed indicators around work zones. They will also begin placing signs farther away to give motorists earlier warnings.
IDOT is reminding motorists not to assume the new speed limit is 70, but to follow posted limits as some areas have maintained the 65mph limit.
