Rep. Bill Mitchell says it’s too expensive to operate the State of Illinois fleet of executive planes.
The aircraft are used mostly to shuttle legislators and justices between Springfield and Chicago.
The state spent $7.3 million last year to run the planes.
That’s just over $4,000 every time they use one of the planes, compared to $21 for a train ticket between the two cities.
They could even drive the route for about $65 after they get their mileage reimbursement.
The bill has been in committee for a year however, and would die out if not put to a vote by the end of the week.
