The Terre Haute Board of Sanitary Commissioners has cleared the way for emergency bids to be taken to build a road for a project connected to the new sewage treatment plant.
The emergency allows them to skip the normally lengthy bidding process.
The road will provide access from Prairieton Road to an area near the east bank of the Wabash River.
The ground was donated to the city by Sugar Creek Scrap to be used as an over flow area for the new treatment plant.
It was discovered that the area is contaminated by lead.
The EPA needs access to the site for clean up operations before other work can move forward.
Total cost of the road is expected to be about $50,000.
