A request for a zoning variance has been put on hold until the Terre Haute Board of Zoning Appeals gathers more information.
The problem concerns the new Indiana State University housing project in the 500 block of Wabash Avenue.
Thompson Thrift is building the project and they are asking to be allowed to build the project right up to the property line and not stop five feet back as required by zoning laws.
Members of the board are concerned about student parking, having enough room for trash receptacles and having enough room for fire trucks in the alley behind the building.
The Terre Haute Board of Zoning Appeals tabled the variance presented by Adam Fischer and Tim Fears for Thompson Thrift and set an April 16 special session to revisit the issue. Thompson Thrift representatives told the board that the project is time sensitive and they didn’t have time to wait.
The board decided that it was more important that they have enough information to protect the interests of the city.
