Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials met on Thursday and approved a new IndyCar Series road course race for 2014.
The race will take place during opening weekend in May to lead up to the 98th running of the Indy 500 on the 25th.
It will mark the first time the IndyCar Series has competed on the road course at IMS. The road course will be reconfigured this fall and next spring to allow more passing zones and fan-friendly vantage points.
More details on the event and changes to the road course will be announced on October 1st.
