Thompson Thrift has won the contract to build Warren Village, which will replace the Deming Center.
Deming is a low-income housing property in downtown Terre Haute. Thompson Thrift will be the general contractor for the $11-million project, which involves building 109 housing units in the former Warren Elementary School at 1300 N. 25th St.
Plans call for renovating the existing Warren School, which closed in 2000, and creating 16 apartments inside the building, and add two wings to the east of the building providing additional apartments and a courtyard. Officials say that Thompson Thrift was the only contractor to submit a formal bid.
Warren Village is expected to be ready for tenants early in 2015.
It is still unclear what will happen to the 100 year old Deming Center building once its tenants move out.
