The Terre Haute City Council and the mayor will spend the next few months finalizing the city budget for next year, but last night they did agree to a 2.5% pay raise for both policemen and firemen. .
Mayor Duke Bennett explained the city has been told by the state that next year's raises for police and fire will be "fundable."
Bennett also said that within 3 to 4 years the city budget will be balanced and the tax anticipation warrant will be paid off.
The reason it is taking that long is due to a huge drop in assessed value.
The mayor also stated that they are looking at raises for all Terre Haute city workers.
