Animal control officers seized one male and two female pitbulls from the backyard of a Terre Haute home during the heat of the day Tuesday.
They had very little food, and no water.
One of the dogs was near death with a body temperature over 105 degrees.
The dogs were kept in closed wooden transport boxes with no ventilation behind the home in the 1200 block of south 11th.
23 year old Jay Johnson was cited for animal cruelty.
They are being treated at the Terre Haute Humane Shelter.
Johnson denies that he is running a puppy mill.
Officials say that one of the females did recently give birth but there is no sign of the puppies.
