The Vigo County Jail is working up a plan to relive an overcrowding issue that has been a problem for the past few decades.
Sherrif Ewing has asked council members and County Commissioners as well as other officials to discuss current inmate population issues and to develop a plan to fix the jail population problem for the long term.
The jail was constructed in 1981 and was undersized. The expansion took place in 2001 and still didn’t meet the needs of the inmate problem.
Sheriff Ewing hopes that history will not repeat itself.
