Several workers at this year’s Parke County Covered Bridge Festival were made sick by what appears to be contaminated cornbread.
During the festival 11 people in all were transported to area hospitals, most of them by ambulance; most of them were complaining of symptoms like dizziness and rapid heart rate; one woman even passed out.
The site where all the vendors ate was along State Road 59, just north of Hendricks Street.
The only people affected were workers as none of the food was served to the general public.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Department is investigating to determine if this was accidental or intentional.
Police say that the family that allegedly made the cornbread is cooperating fully.
