The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has cut the weight limit on the State Road 46 Eel River Bridge weight limit from 19 to 14-tons.
Based on a recent inspection of the bridge, officials with INDOT said that the condition of the bridge made the decision necessary.
A contract to build a new bridge is currently being developed.
The replacement bridge is set to tentatively open in 2018.
The bridge was originally built in 1933 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
